About Therapy Starr

I am an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor with a specialism in trauma related work. I am dedicated to helping individuals overcome their challenges and lead fulfilling lives. Compassion Focused Therapy, (CFT) devised by Paul Gilbert, forms the foundations for my practice. I believe that psychotherapy has a profound and positive impact on the psyche of any individual.

I place emphasis on awareness, growth and self-discovery, meaning that I prefer to take the role of a facilitator or a mentor, rather than being the one with all the answers. My compassionate and empathetic approach creates a safe and supportive environment for clients to express their thoughts and feelings openly.

Using various therapeutic techniques, I guide clients through an exploration of their inner selves, identifying patterns, and finding new ways of being. I believe in the power of transformation and I am passionate about making a positive difference in people's lives.

Methods of Integration

Person-Centred Therapy

Person-centred therapy focuses on the individual's unique experiences and perspectives. Working on the assumption that individuals have the capacity for self-growth and change, and that they are the experts of their own lives the therapist provides a safe and non-judgmental environment where the client can freely express their thoughts and feelings.

Trauma Informed Practice

Recognising the impact of trauma on individuals' lives, the importance of establishing trust and collaboration is essential components to this approach. By helping clients develop coping strategies, build resilience, and regain a sense of control over their lives, individuals can work towards healing.

Compassionate Focused Therapy

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is a therapeutic approach that emphasizes the cultivation of compassion, both towards oneself and others. It recognizes the importance of self-compassion in alleviating suffering and promoting overall psychological growth.

Psychodynamic therapy

Focused on exploring the unconscious mind and its influence on behavior and emotions this approach believes that unresolved conflicts and past experiences can shape present thoughts and feelings.

Cognitive therapy

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on changing patterns of thinking and behavior. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected and that by changing our thoughts, we can change our feelings and behaviors.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and involves paying attention to thoughts, feelings, and sensations. By cultivating mindfulness, individuals can develop self-awareness and a greater sense of inner peace and acceptance.
